About Graco
In 1942, Russell Gray and Robert Cone formed Graco Metal Products, in Philadelphia, PA. For 11 years, the firm fabricated machine and car parts for local manufacturers. In 1953, Gray left the firm, leaving Cone as sole owner. Cone decided to manufacture his own line of products, but had trouble coming up with ideas. Enter David Saint, an engineer, tinkerer, and stained glass artisan who worked for Graco.

Saint, himself a father of nine, was intrigued when an associate told him how his wife would soothe their tired and cranky baby while swinging in a backyard glider swing. Acting on this inspiration, he went to the drawing board and 18 months of hard work later, the world’s first wind-up infant swing, the Graco Swyngomatic, was born. Graco sold millions of Swyngomatics in the coming years, becoming one of the world’s leading manufacturers of juvenile products in the process. Today, Graco is a Newell Rubbermaid company, with 1500 associates worldwide. While a half-century has brought many changes to Graco, their dedication and commitment to designing and manufacturing top-quality products remains, and continues on.

Questions & Answers

Q. What types of baby car seats are available?

There are several types of baby car seats such as infant seats, a forward facing baby car seat, and convertible seats. There are also combination seats (can face front or rear), booster seats and integrated car seats. With each type of seat there are variations.

Q. Is a five-point harness or a shield safest for my baby?

A five point harness gives your child the greatest protection because it holds your baby tighter in the seat in the event of a crash. A T-Shield or over-the-head restraint allows too much room or can get in the way of chubby tummies and legs. The stalk of the T-Shield can cause serious injury to your baby.

Q. How can I find out how to safely install my baby’s car seat?

All car seats (except most second hand seats) come with printed directions. If after reading the directions you still are not sure how to properly install it. You can call or email the manufacturer. Some police stations and hospitals have assistance programsas well.

Q. Is there a correct way to secure my child in the baby car seat?

Yes, there is a correct way in which to secure your child in his car seat. How you secure your baby in the car seat will likely depend on the age and size of your baby. For children under a year of age they should be placed in rear-facing seats in the centerof the rear seat. Older children can sit facing front and their seat are generally placed behind the driver or passenger in order to utilize the shoulder/lap belts.

Q. What is LATCH?

LATCH refers to Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children. It is a baby car seat installation system. The lower hooks are attached between the bottom of the back of the seat and seat itself. The tether piece is a strap made of seat belt material with a clip that secures forward facing baby car seats and prevents excessive movement of the baby’s head in crashes.

Q. What is a Tether?

The tether is a strap made of seat belt material with a clip. It attaches to the clips on the seat and secures front facing baby car seats. In a crash it prevents excessive movement of the seat and the baby’s head, reducing the severity of injuries.

Q. How can I tell when my child is ready to use car seat belts without a booster seat?

Your child will be ready for using the car safety restraint system when s/he can sitall the way back in the seat and the knees can bend comfortably over the edge of the seat. The belt crosses the shoulder between the neck and the arm and the lap belt is low and touches the thighs. Your child must be able to remain seated the whole trip.

Q. Can a baby car seat be used safely in an airplane?

Yes it can. Airlines require children age 2 and under, to be in approved car seats. The seats must be 16 inches or less to fit in the airplane seats. Call ahead and find out ifyour seat is an approved seat. Once on the plane, the hostess/es, will be able to assist you.

Q. Is it safe for me to use second-hand baby car seats?

Yes it is safe to use second-hand baby car seats provided you do a safety check. Belts and harnesses should not be frayed or cracked. There should be no cracks or tears in the seat cover and the seat should recline easily and stay upright when the baby is seated. Look into the history of the seat, if it has been in a car crash do not buy it, its ability to safely restrain your child has been compromised.

If the seat doesn’t come with a manual contact the manufacturer to ensure the seat will be properly installed. If the seat is more than 5 years old do not use it, it may have been in a crash and older baby car seats may not fit in new model cars.

Q. What should I do if my baby car seat is recalled?

In most cases, the manufacturer will provide you with instructions of what to do if baby car seat is recalled. In some cases they will replace it for free they will have you bring it somewhere to get replacement parts also at no cost to you.

Q. Are there baby car seats available for children with special needs?

Children with special needs may require different restraint systems. Discuss your options with your pediatrician. Agencies such as Easter Seals have programs and information on baby car seats for special needs children.

Q. What is the best type of harness for my baby car seat?

There are four types of harnesses in baby car seats.

The six-point harness has two straps at the shoulders, two at the hips and two at the crotch.

The five-point harness has two straps at the shoulders, two at the hips and one at the crotch.

The t-shield is a padded triangle that latches at the crotch while the overhead shield comes down from over the head and latches at the crotch also.

The safest harnesses are the five or six-point harnesses. These prevent excessive movement of the baby in crash situations.

The t shield and the over-head shield allow for too much room and could cause your baby to be ejected from the car in a crash.

Better than Radian or Britax in my humble opinion

So I did a LOT of reseach before buying this, read multiple message boards, then to the store to look at them, etc. This replaced a britax that was passed down to DD #2 for my rather large 4 yo girl(40lbs, 40inches)I want to keep her harnessed for as long as I can. I finally decided to go for it b/c of

1)price – I am a big fan of bang for your buck,

2)sturdiness – It’s got a nice weight, sturdy frame.

3)comfort, memory foam! DD loves it, she sleeps very comfortably in it without slumping over like she used to.

4)size, not gigantic like the regent but large it enough to have a big kid sit in it

Who can beat amazon’s price! I highly recommend it, I think it will last my DD until she’s prob 7-8 yo (My average sized 8yo nephew fits!)

Amazing Car Seat – Design and Value

My Wife, a Pediatrician, did a ton of research – with the first priority being safety, safety, and, I’ll say it again, safety. We were Britax users for our first car seats and found it a fine car seat, though pricey. So, this time around, with our son growing too long for the Britax seats that we had, we decided to look at all the options. Price was not part of the equation. Design was not either. Safety was it.

The installation was simple. The headrest is extremely easy to use and to “fit”. The five point harness is critical to our son’s safety and it is very easy to use. Overall, we are very happy with Graco.

Evenflo Convertible Car Seat, Tribute 5 Reviews

New Mommy

I have only had the Evenflo Convertible Car Seat installed for about two weeks or so.

1) The fabric is great, and the padding is well made. On the whole, the produce itself is of good quality workmanship.

2) Once you figure out how to follow the instructions for adjusting the seatbelt system, actually manipulating it is fairly easy. Other products require some wrestling to get the belts where you want them – this seat is fairly simple.

For $52.00 straight up shipped…this was a damn bargain!

It has more padding then the Cosco Scenera for about the same price. It also can be adjusted to recline. It has high sides also and tested well in crash test. I would recommend it highly at this price point. I want my girl to be comfrortable without her head flopping forward well sleeping, which evidently happens in the Scenera.

Some of the major features are:

Kolcraft Contours Options 3 Wheeler Stroller II, Cinnamon is is a great choice. it is very manoeuvrable and will last your baby forever. This model comes with a car seat frame so that you can make your own travel system, as well as a regular seat that can reverse from facing the parent to facing outward, and is good up to 50 lbs, so you can use this stroller for a few years. Why spend extra money on one of those bulky plastic travel systems. The car seat holder and regular seat just snap in and out, and it’s very easy to change from forward to reverse facing.

This is a good, robust outdoor stroller. It is extremely manoeuvrable, can be steered with one finger and will turn on a sixpence.

The stroller also works great for in-store shopping as it does not take up too much room. It is a bit wider than 4-wheel strollers, but not so wide as to cause problems when shopping. It also folds down to a reasonable size and is not heavy.

There are 2 cup holders for adults and a fairly large try to put personal belongings, like, keys, handbag etc. The basket under is great for stowing all the baby bits and pieces. There is also a cup holder for baby with the seat. This is a first class product at a very reasonable price that I would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone needing stroller.

Excellent quality, great value

I love this Contours Options 3 wheeler stroller. It is so maneuverable and will last my baby forever. This model comes with a car seat frame so that you can make your own “travel system,” as well as a regular seat that can reverse from facing the parent to facing outward, and lasts to 50 lbs, so you can use this for years. I can’t imagine why you’d spend the money on those bulky plastic travel systems. The car seat holder and regular seat just snap in and out, and it’s very easy to change from one to the other and to reverse the direction of the seat.

I was looking for a stroller mostly for outdoor use and exercise, and this is an all-terrain stroller that fits the bill. While it’s not specifically marketed as a jogging stroller, you can lock the front wheel and I imagine it would do great.

With the front wheel swiveling, though, you can turn this stroller on a dime, and can steer it with one finger. Easy and fun to steer this. It’s very stable and is definitely all-terrain. It’s winter now, but this stroller has done great on frozen snow ruts and has easily cruised along when I’ve gone up onto grass on one wheel and sidewalk on the other. Also, the brake system is extremely secure and I feel confident that the stroller isn’t going to roll off on me. Can’t wait to take this out this summer.

In my opinion, the Contours Options 3 wheeler stroller works great for indoor shopping as well. Like I said, it’s extremely maneuverable. It is a bit wider than 4-wheel strollers, but I don’t think that narrow aisles are a problem most places where you’d shop with this. I also think it folds down to a reasonable size (and very easily) and isn’t too heavy.

The stroller has 2 cup holders for parents and a tray big enough to stash your phone, keys, wallet, whatever. The basket underneath is big enough for me – it’s easier to access from the front of the stroller than from the “driver” side, if that’s a concern. There’s a sippy cup holder for baby with the the seat. If you’re interested in the car seat holder, it is a frame in which the seat sits, with a seat belt attached to the frame that runs over the seat to secure it to the stroller.

You do not latch the seat onto the frame, but I’ve found it to be extremely secure for my little one. The car seat adapter (if you want/need it) ONLY works with the following models of car seat: Baby Trend Flex-Loc, Baby Trend Latch-Loc, Chicco Key Fit, Cosco Designer 22, Cosco First Ride DX, Evenflo Discovery, Evenflo Embrace, Graco Safe Seat, Graco Snug Ride, Graco Snug Ride 32, Maxi-Cosi Mico, Peg Perego Primo Viaggio, Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP, Safety 1st Designer 22, Safety 1st Starter Series.

Not terribly difficult to assemble. All you need is a Phillips head screwdriver. The directions aren’t spectacular, but there’s not too much to do and I figured it out during baby’s short nap, so I’d rate it easy to assemble. Overall, I just love this stroller and look forward to getting out with baby in it. I researched a lot of strollers before settling on this one, and I’m glad I did.
