By the time you are 25 weeks pregnant you may find that you are now experiencing a whole new set of pregnancy side effects due to the increasing size of your abdomen and your baby’s continual weight gain.

Pregnancy 25 Weeks

For some women the weight of the baby can press down against the pelvic bones causing a condition known as ‘sciatica’ where the nerves become compressed sending sharp, shooting pains down the legs and lower back which can also result in a numbness or tingling sensation.

As the baby is often pressing down on your bladder it is quite normal to find that you may, from time to time, expel a small amount of urine when you laugh, cough or move suddenly. Doing pelvic floor muscle exercises will certainly help any incontinence you may be experiencing at this stage.

If, for any reason, you are expelling large amounts of fluid and are concerned as to whether it is actually urine or even amniotic fluid then you need to consult with your GP who may perform a vaginal inspection to check for any rupturing or simply a scan to check the amount of amniotic fluid there is surrounding the baby. Losing amniotic fluid at this stage could possibly be the early signs of a pre-term labor. A small amount of fluid will usually just be urine and there is a rather distinct smell between the two.

You may be finding it increasing arduous to move around as normal by the time you are 25 weeks pregnant so it is important to ensure that you always maintain a healthy, upright posture at all times with your feet flat on the floor to avoid any unnecessary straining. Naturally, avoid all heavy lifting and never bend your back if you are attempting to pick something up.

As always, gentle exercise, lots of rest and a healthy eating plan should be part of your daily routine by now. Try to get into the habit of sleeping on your side, or use a Pregnancy Pillow if needed, in order to have a good night’s sleep.

Don’t be too alarmed or read into vivid or scary dreams too much as this is simply a reflection of your sub-conscience fears or concerns you’re experiencing towards impending motherhood – relax, it’s commonplace with all expectant mothers, especially the first time around.
