pregnancy week 35

By pregnancy week 35, it may be possible to ask your midwife to give you a Geography tour of your pregnancy. You should now be able to externally feel the baby’s position for yourself. Your midwife will be to show your where to place your hands in order to feel the firm roundness of your baby’s head as it bobs from side to side under the pressure of your fingers. You should also be able to feel the long, smooth curve of your baby’s back right down to his bony, little bottom.

Pregnancy 35 Weeks

This can be a very exciting thing, especially for a first time mother and also gives your partner a chance to become a little further bonded with the pregnancy. He may even be able to hear your baby’s heartbeat if he locates the correct place on the baby’s back. Using a toilet roll tube can help to amplify the sound. Don’t be alarmed if he is unable to locate it, this has never been the work for amateurs.

If you haven’t already done so, then this may definitely be the time for you to consider purchasing yourself a nursing bra as your breasts will now be fully nourished with baby milk awaiting your baby’s arrival. Your baby will also be experiencing rapid, final weight gain during this week with the final fat deposits appearing mainly around her shoulders.

With your bump increasing quite rapidly in size during these final weeks, many women can become quite afraid of the thought of giving birth. Although much of your ‘baby bump’ can be attributed to amniotic fluid, there is really no need to be afraid of giving birth naturally. It has been successfully achieved for over a million years and most of that was without the modern medical care and supervision we have today.

A woman afraid of giving birth naturally may want to opt for a caesarian but this may not always be medically granted as it is not always the safest way for a healthy baby to be delivered. If the thought of having a cut (known as an episiotomy) to enlarge the birth outlet sends you weak in the knees (although this is also not often required) you may want to consider doing a little perineal massage.

By the end of pregnancy week 35 your baby will measure up to 19.75″ (50.2cm) and weigh in at around 5.5lbs (2.5kg).
